The Beginings 1951

Council 458 was erected on the Eleventh of November 1951. a Charter Council of Province 2 Liverpool. The first meeting was held on the 28th November 1951 in St. Mary's Hall, Myrtle Street, Douglas. Subsequent meetings were held in St. Mary's School, Mount Havelock. The Main priorities were to increase membership and obtain suitable premises. A Property Committee was set up on the 5th December 1951 charged with finding a building or place for immediate use by the Council, for Council meetings, as a temporary expedient, while the search for permanent headquarters was made. A property was purchased on the 20th August 1952 and meetings were transferred to 1 Sydney Mount. Columba Club opened on 27th October 1952. The first Grand Knight was Dr. R. Peel.

 

Council Officers
Council Officers serve for one year, with the exception of the Grand Knight (serves a maximum consecutive three years), are always eligible for a further year in office.

The duties of each officer are defined within the rules and constitution of the Order. In accepting election to a position, officers accept these rules unreservedly and the obligation to fulfil them.Successful government of the Order demands that Officers inspire all those who serve under them to greater effort and achievement.
